Ironically enough, this watch is part of a new collection from Seiko that celebrates the 50th Anniversary of their high-end Grand Seiko watch collection. The Spring Drive 50th Anniversary watch also comes in a 41mm version in steel with metal bracelet that is about $7,000 limited to 300 pieces (the pieces in the collection are generally limited to either 300 or 500 pieces). This is probably the first time that an over $25,000 platinum Seiko watch was been offered in the US - so it will take us some getting used to. Friday Afternoon Find: Billy Bob Thornton's Seiko From The Movie "Faster"

The watch appears to be a Seiko reference 6309, which is a reference appreciated by many Seiko collectors. Despite being a bit of a watch snob, the Seiko 6309 is one of my all time favorites, and for all the right reasons: an iconic and well-sized case, a proportioned but equally readible face, and a robust and reliable movement make this a winner. Seiko diver watches, both new and vintage, have a strong and loyal contingent of fans. I wish Seiko would re-release this model, only it would be so hard for them to do better the second time around. For more information on this watch, available for $329. Currently for sale at Premiere Props, an entertainment memorabilia online store, is the watch that was worn by Billy Bob Thornton in the movie Faster.

Mayfield, it's a well built Seiko watches. The movement is "kinetic", you can manually wind the watch from the Crown, or you can wear it and it loads, such as seeing a car wind. I only had this watch for about a week now, as far as reliability, I do not know. The other hand is not a "comprehensive" manual, it ticks as opposed to an automatic watch.
