Manali to Leh : Bitten by the Bullet

Many were flying till Leh and hiring cabs to go around there, but some also rode bikes to Leh. Discussions for the trip started almost 6 months back starting with forming our group, applying leaves, reading and listening to people's trip experiences. Last year another person went riding from Manali to Leh and was absolutely smitten by the trip. One person I knew had once sent his bike from Bangalore all the way till Delhi to ride it to Leh. Leh emerged in my travel radar around 3-4 years back when I started hearing about friends and colleagues visiting. The bikers mostly spoke about the bike ride. The Manali - Leh highway is snow free and opens only from June to October. My perspective here will instead be of someone who also enjoys riding among many other things....

Of all the things I hate in this city, and trust me there are not many, the traffic in the city along with the incorrigible traffic fleece-(police)men definitely top the list. You could stand at a crossing with a green traffic signal flashing in front of you and the entire traffic situation being carefully watched by the traffic cops on all corners, and might not even move an inch. In Delhi NCR, the traffic is fast but they at least understand the concept of lanes. Unthinkable in any other city, trust me. Here in Hyderabad, there is no concept of lanes or red lights even. unless, you are driving in the Greater Noida Expressway or the Nelson Mandela Road near Vasant Kunj, that is. You can never get to see the vast expanse of roads and awesome flyovers if you are not in Delhi....
